In 1992, the Pittsburgh Steelers were faced with choosing a new head coach for the first time in over two decades. They interviewed many candidates, but eventually settled on Kansas City defensive coordinator Bill Cowher, a native of nearby Crafton, Pennsylvania, who had played for the Eagles and coached the Cleveland Browns secondary and special teams. Cowher gained a reputation as a player's coach with a fiery enthusiasm and a commitment to controlling the game with the run. During his time in Pittsburgh, Cowher led the Steelers to 11 winning seasons, 8 division championships, and a win in Super Bowl XL. After the 2006 season, Bill Cowher stepped down as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers after 15 years. Most believe that it won't be long before Cowher is back on an NFL sideline— the only question is where?
