In his first year as head coach of the Ravens, John Harbaugh led Baltimore back into Super Bowl contention after a demoralizing 2007 season had created animosity between the team's offensive and defensive units. Coming off the worst finish in Ravens history, Harbaugh's Ravens returned to the playoffs in 2008 as a Wild Card with rookie QB Joe Flacco at the helm and advanced all the way to the AFC Championship, making Harbaugh and Flacco the most successful rookie coach-QB tandem in modern NFL history. Previously, Harbaugh was the special teams coach in Philadelphia for nine seasons, then switched to coaching the Eagles' defensive backs in 2007. This is Harbaugh's first experience as a head coach, but there is plenty of football experience in his family background. Jack Harbaugh, John's father, was a head coach for twenty seasons combined at Western Michigan and Western Kentucky. John's younger brother, Jim Harbaugh, played quarterback for five NFL teams (including the Ravens in 1998) and is now the head coach at Stanford.
